Jon Chilton was originally classically trained (as a violinist in the Suzuki method) before studying guitar at the Musicians Institute and then at the London College of Music where he studied with, among others, jazz legend John Etheridge (Soft Machine, Nigel Kennedy, Stephan Grappelli etc.)
He later spent several years as guitarist and songwriter with Fierce Panda signed indie-rock band Phonotype (’spellbinding’, ‘guitars’ that soar, NME) with UK tours, regular rotation on MTV2, BBC Radio 1, X-fm etc, as well as undertaking regular session work as a guitarist. With Phonotype, Jon worked alongside producers such as Jon Jacobs (Divine Comedy, The Almighty, Paul McCartney) and Jay Reynolds (Pulp, McFly).
Since 2005 Jon Chilton has been commissioned to write music for TV in a wide variety of styles, from orchestral to rock to jazz to electronic. His CV includes many recent commissions for major BBC series, Universal, and Sky TV channels as well as independent film production companies.
